So I've been working at Wizard Con today and yesterday on behalf of my Friendly Neighborhood Comic Shop. I didn't get to enjoy it as much because I had to sell comics all day, but I bought a Movie Scorponok, two Cobra Commanders to ride him (yee-HAW!), comics, including an out-of-print Avengers' Mansion Siege paperback with an awesome cover, and some Dr. Who toys. I also got to meet
mike_smith and
jim_smith in person. Go me.
But the BEST part was when my boss gave me an extra wrist band pass to see the EXCLUSIVE DC PANEL ABOUT THE DARK KNIGHT MOVIE. Nolan and Christian Bale were in attendance.
This was cool enough, but it got BETTER. I was able to ask a QUESTION. After waiting in line, I got my turn. The PUBLISHER OF DC COMICS commented on how great it was for a girl to ask a question at the panel (I was the only one who got up), and then I got my turn to speak to, literally, a dais of superstar actors. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart.
Me: "Uhm, I'm sorry, but I was clapping too hard and I lost my Cobra Commander toy. Can someone find it?"
Attendees: (laughter)
Me: "No, seriously. Find it."
Attendees: ( more laughter)
Me: "I grew up with the Joker from the Batman cartoon. Mark Hammil is, to me, the Joker." (Applause) "What is a key difference between the cartoon Joker, and the new movie Joker?"
Some Asshole: "He's real!"
Audience and me: (laughter)
Me: "Shut up!"
Chris Nolan: (explains that he can't give anything away for the movie, but that Heath ledger's Joker is literally "indescribable" and he can't tell me anything about him because he's just so unique)
Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon) spoke up and said that we would be blown away by the new Joker, and I left to return to my seat. My Cobra Commander was waiting in the hands of a helpful attendee, and I returned CC to my breast pocket (where he lives).
They gave us two special treats at the panel. The DC publisher guy told us the first one was "on us" and later we'd known what that meant. I can only figure it was the wrist band pass, but so far I haven't cracked that code. Help on this please, it's blue, has the DC and Wildstorm logos. Then they showed us a neak peak at the new movie as the second treat. Most of it was simple car stuff, fires and explosions and all that, but there was this cool exchange:
"Harvey? I thought you was [sic] dead!"
"Only half."
Damn, this was the best con ever.
